In this 2 hour class, students will learn why, how and when to sharpen and balance rotary lawn mower blades. We will cover lawn cut health, sharpening and balancing techniques and equipment, as well as safety and personal protective equipment. Students will actually clean, sharpen and balance lawnmower blades. Students should bring a rotary lawn mower blade (or set) to sharpen, practice sharpening blades will be provided.
Students will use a variety of handheld manual and electric tools as well as stationary grinding equipment. Students will leave class with a clean, sharp and balanced blade to maintain a healthy lawn cut.
Tools used: Hand file, hand wire brush, hand scraper/stiff putty knife, electric right angle grinder, bench top grinder, balancing tool.
What to bring and Wear: Students will need to bring in their own Rotary lawn mower blade or set (if applicable). (Practice sets will also be provided.) Students should wear close-toed shoes and no dangling jewelry. Sleeves should be short or fitted at the wrist.
