A bird built for diving with a haunting voice stops in northeastern Utah every spring. You can learn more about this unique bird on April 21 during our annual Loon Watch at Steinaker State Park. The free event will run from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. We'll provide spotting scopes with PhoneSkope adapters so you can get a good look at the birds on the water. Biologists will set up displays with information about loons — from that site, they'll direct you to additional viewing areas.

Dress for cool weather and bring lunch and snacks. The weather will determine if the event is held. Call 435-781-9453 the day before the event to confirm it will be held.

To reach the viewing site from U.S. Highway 40, take Vernal Avenue north on Hwy 191. DWR biologists will be set up at one of the US 191 pull-outs on the east side of the reservoir. Look for the wildlife banners.

Registration for this event is not mandatory and tickets are not required, but we're asking that you please fill out the registration form so we can make improvements to future events: http://bit.ly/loon_watch
