Basic First Aid classes can be regularly found in any community. For a few dollars and a few hours you can learn how to bandage bumps, bruises and lacerations. You learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of a heart attack and stroke. You learn the value of proper hydration, nutrition and managing the variables of heat and cold. Basic First Aid classes are essential, informative and useful.

This workshop is not a certified workshop offering. It is designed differently from a Basic First Aid or Wilderness First Aid class. In this workshop you will begin to think differently about what to do and how to do it. In the backcountry what you do in the first five minutes matters. A lot. In fact, it could be the difference between life and death This class will give you an overview of what to do when mishap happens and the Golden Hour of care rests solely on your shoulders.

As a part of this workshop, you will practice processes, demonstrate procedures and implement hypothetical treatments.

The First Aid in the Backcountry Workshop is broken into four components:

* Overview of Wilderness Emergencies – definition, Golden Hour, what to do
* Five Why’s of a Bad Day
* Blisters
* Fractures/Sprains/Strains – practice BUFF

Class Size: Limit of 10 – rate includes materials.
