What is Slow Food! The slow movement advocates a cultural shift toward slowing down life's pace, that brings back to life the fundamental art of traditional food preparation and cooking, supporting local trade and cooking with soul.

The slow food movement began with Carlo Petrini's protest against the opening of a McDonald's restaurant in Piazza di Spagna, Rome in 1986 that sparked the creation of the slow food movement. Promoted as an alternative to fast food, it strives to preserve traditional and regional cuisine and encourages farming of plants, seeds, and livestock characteristic of the local ecosystem The slow food movement acknowledges and praises all the great elders, our grandparents and pioneers of gastronomy and culinary arts. Without them, the soul of food, gathering round a table, in community and spirit, to feast would be lost.
