The tradition continues...
Each Memorial Day, Americans across the United States take the time to honor those who have fallen while defending our country. For our Crossfit community, we pay our respects and honor all of those soldiers through the completion of a brutal test of our mental strength and fitness, Murph.
The why: LT. Michael P. Murphy
'Murph' is a CrossFit Hero WOD named after Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005, he was 29.
For his selfless leadership, courageous actions and extraordinary devotion to duty, LT. Michael P. Murphy was posthumously rewarded the Medal of Honor, the first service member to receive the medal for service in Afghanistan, and the first Navy recipient of the medal since Vietnam.
The workout was initially one of Mike’s favorites and he’d named it ‘Body Armor', and It first appeared on the CrossFit site 18 August 2005.
1 mile run
100 pull ups
200 push ups
300 air squats
1 mile run
RX: completed with a 20#/14# vest
*remember, all workouts are able to be scaled and can even be completed with a partner! All fitness levels are welcome to attend!
Join us on Monday, May 28th to honor those who gave their all for our country. We will work in TWO heats, at 10 a.m. And 11:00 a.m. Click on the link below to register for a heat and order a shirt if you choose!
All participants in the workout will get a custom t-shirt or tank top with their $25 registration. In order to be guaranteed at shirt, you must be registered by May 7th. You may still register after the 7th but you will not be guaranteed a shirt. All proceeds will be going to a Roots for Boots!
