#var:page_name# cover

Professor Tran serves as an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Arts and as the Director of Undergraduate Studies in Creative Writing. He'll join us to share about his background as a first-generation college student and an immigrant, his work as a novelist, and his role as a faculty member.

Professor Tran was born in Vietnam and raised in Oklahoma in a family of refugees. He shares, "My childhood had many financial and social limitations, but parents eventually opened a BBQ restaurant where my siblings and I worked throughout high school and college, and our family slowly experienced upward mobility, with all the benefits and damages that brought. My siblings and I are first-generation college students, and I am the first in my immediate and extended family to attend graduate school, as well as the only person to go into academia and the arts."
