It may seem counter-intuitive to think that resting for long periods supported on pillows with sandbags and blankets weighing one down is an effective approach to weight loss and maintenance. Restorative Yoga and the Yoga of Meditation are in fact crucial tools for weight loss for different reasons but cortisol (the stress hormone) is one of the main ones. Reducing stress responses that are unnecessary and unhelpful for a person can lead to reuced cortisol. Cortisol is well known to lead to weight gain especially in the midsection.
