Chanting mantras aloud with focus brings about a change in our mental state - it helps to lessen our internal chatter, thereby quietening the mind.
Yoga is citta vṛtti nirodhaḥ – restraint of the thoughts. Speech is the external reflection of the mind, however real restraint of the mind is control of mental speech.
In each of these five weeks we will learn and repeat a mantra, focusing on the sound alone; we'll learn and recite the prayer to Patañjali (week one) and Chapters 1 & 2 of the Yogasūtras (weeks two to five). Each session includes a short practice bringing movement and sound together.
Come experience group chanting, then take it to your personal practice. External to internal. Gross to subtle.
