Myo-Fascial Release Self-Treatment can use balls, rollers, and other devices to provide prolonged hold compression or stretching, which facilitates fluid movement into the cellular level—where restrictions are held. This fluid movement rehydrates the tissues so they can once again glide and move freely, releasing functional motion. The amount of time is important, 3-5 minutes or longer for each release. Unwinding occurs, allowing for release of emotions or tension guarding patterns from past trauma along with the structural tissue release.

MFR encourages "Letting Go" of tension, holding patterns, and emotions. Though participants will be instructed in basic positions or postures, they are encouraged to "unwind" where they feel they need to for the optimal release for their bodies. Modifications will be given for sitting, standing, or lying down as needed for comfort and release.
