On May 17th, a select group of 10 are welcome to join this workshop on Inclusive Conversations (a monthly series that explores various topics in building an inclusive culture).
"This person brings a really unique perspective, but they approach work very differently.”
“Their ideas are great, but nobody seems to understand them.”
Diversity values difference, but different minds can make it difficult to “get on the same page” when accomplishing tasks. How do you communicate effectively when everyone is speaking a different language?
This interactive workshop explores the practical challenges of communication diversity and concrete tools for effective, inclusive conversations. You’ll learn a framework for understanding different communication backgrounds and styles, and how to interpret unexpected or confusing communication responses.
A major part of successful inclusive communication amongst diverse speakers is the ability to openly discuss differences openly. We’ll equip you with a vocabulary set to talk about differences in an affirming, empathetic manner. You’ll practice language exercises to help you get comfortable describing your own experiences and asking others about theirs.
We’ll explore basic different types of communication diversity. You’ll get hands-on experience with how this plays out in real-world conversations. Ever wished you could go back and redo a conversation because of a realization mid-stream? We’ll give you that opportunity.
This workshop will be facilitated by professional communication coaches with clinical expertise in speech-language pathology. The session will flow between instruction, experiential learning, and open discussion. Questions and counterpoints from participants will be an essential ingredient!
This evening is for anyone interested in learning more about their own communication and/or the communication needs of others. Whether you identify as a marginalized or a “mainstream” communicator, whether you’re trying to fit in or making decisions about how to help fit other people in, you’ll walk away with concrete strategies for communicating well with team members.
After the hands-on workshop, our company chef will prepare a homemade dinner so you can mingle with our team and our facilitators to ask questions about building an inclusive culture.
3-6 PM: Hands-on workshop
6-7 PM: Dinner and Q&A
