The Tama County Historical Society will host George Horton for his presentation, From Creation to the Great Depression: A Fox Nation Timeline, on Wednesday, April 4, at 7:00 p.m. in the genealogical library, 200 N. Broadway St, Toledo. The program is free and open to the public.
Originally presented at the 2016 Midwest Archaeological Conference, Horton’s program chronicles the story of two history strips created by a Meskwaki artists in the 1920s and 1950s. A resident of Vining, Horton found one strip at the What Cheer Flea Market and a second at Sharpless Auctions in Iowa City. He researched the artist and the story they tell with the help of multiple experts from the University of Iowa, the State Archaeologist Office, and Meskwaki tribe members and historians.
