The first issue of Artemis was published in 1977. Now in their 40th year, they are inspired by the moral challenge of the 21st century to honor and hold up the world’s women. This year’s edition honors the feminist spirit that launched a new wave in the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election. These poems, essays and art capture the creative, indefatigable spirit of women. The response to their chosen theme, “Women Hold Up Half the Sky” was overwhelming. Artemis received over 1000 submissions from as far away as England, Italy, and Ethiopia. The quality and quantity of submissions have grown the 2018 edition into a beautiful and vibrant book, well beyond the usual page count.
In celebration of this annual launch Artemis and the Taubman Museum of Art welcome you to join us for an evening featuring New York Times author Sharyn McCrumb of Unquiet Grave. Doors for the event open at 6:30pm, and the talk begins at 7pm. The Artemis 2018 journal will be unveiled at this event.
We invite you to support the arts and purchase the book and your tickets together. This option includes a small donation that will support both Artemis and the Taubman Museum of Art.
