'Existing Realities' by Diarmiud Breen draws on an attempt to comment on two aspects of the human experience. The first of these is the function work plays in our everyday lives: people are busier than ever, trying to make more and more money, but does this lead to happiness day-today? The second relates to the prevalance of digital technology. We are more connected than ever with social media, but this also creates social isolation. There is less human interaction on a daily basis, yet our lives have never been under more scrutiny from outside sources.

The uncertainty, strangeness and banal nature of these aspects of everyday life is portrayed in Breen's work through pictorial sources found in old books and photographs. These lend his paintings an aura of nostalgia while ensuring that they remain relatable, retaining their relationship with our contemporary experience.

'Crystalline: Disappearing Worlds' by Siobhán McDonald features new paintings that deal with the human instinct of continual exploration and human endurance in extreme circumstances. The series is based on photographic plates recovered from various Arctic expeditions (c.late 1800s / early 1900s). The images that survived in cameras used on these grand voyages, trapped in the glaciers with the glass plates preserved within them, provide the paintings with their subject matter.

'Crystalline' is an ongoing body of work comprised of a series of inquiries into environmental change, it addresses the complexities of the delicate balance of nature and the impact of human activity upon it. To date McDonald has brought together several strands of work ranging from photograms, seeds, smoked carbon drawings, appropriated imagery to oil paintings on board.
