Course Objectives:

Session 1

Understand physics principles as they apply to diagnostic ultrasound.
Recognize and identify common ultrasound artifacts.
Demonstrate patient positioning and preparation for an abdominal ultrasound exam.
Demonstrate proper transducer selection and how to optimize ultrasound image quality.
Recognize and describe relevant abdominal anatomy.
Understand basic relevant abdominal organ physiology.
Recognize normal abdominal ultrasound anatomy.
Recognize, describe and acquire standard diagnostic two-dimensional abdominal still images and cine loops with an emphasis on larger organs (liver, spleen, kidneys, urinary bladder).
Begin to learn to recognize, describe and acquire standard diagnostic two-dimensional abdominal still images and cine loops on smaller organs (adrenal glands, GI tract, pancreas, lymph nodes).
Demonstrate measuring, labeling and saving ultrasound still images and cine loops.
Demonstrate transmitting images/studies for remote review.
Recognize features of diagnostic and non-diagnostic ultrasound images.
