The Pursuit of Happiness Workshop Production delves into our cultural obsession with happiness as an ultimate goal. From the guarantee of the pursuit of happiness as an unalienable right in the Declaration of Independence to today's pursuit of 'Likes' on social media, happiness has always been front and center in our life goals and an important ambition defining our national character. But what is true happiness? What is our happiness determined by? Why, despite achieving goals that are supposed to bring happiness, are we always finding ourselves grasping for more? This experiential workshop production directed by our co-artistic director, Cynthia Ettinger, explores the multi-layered concept of happiness through the lens of community, love, technology, and success. Our workshop productions are a unique opportunity for the curious soul to witness our creative process at work, from the struggle and challenges of creating, to moments of discovery, to the magic of breakthroughs; a process usually experienced only by the cast and crew. Come join us in trying to find answers and be our eyes and hearts as we explore new themes in this Actors' Gang original workshop production."
*Cynthia Ettinger is a founding member of The Actors’ Gang Theater, and serves as the company’s Co-Artistic Director and Master Teaching Artist. She has performed in and directed numerous plays during the company’s 35 year history. Since 2006, she has also served as a lead teaching artist in the Prison Project and Education Department.
