WORKSHOP: Pirate, Robot, or Ninja: What Improviser are you?

What kind of Improviser are you? Are you brash and brave, cold and calculating, or never seen.

The perfect Improviser is all of these things. In this workshop, you will find out where your improv comes from, perfect where it comes from, and then work on other elements to make you well rounded. This workshop will do different forms and exercises that will help you understand your strengths and realize you don't have to have weaknesses. Then, try out your newly discovered improv identity in a class showcase at The Ape.

This workshop will be taught in 2 parts. Maximum 16 people

Pirate Robot Ninja Part 1 - 10 AM -1 PM

Lunch Break

Pirate Robot Ninja Part 2 - 2 PM – 5 PM

Student Showcase: 7 PM on The Ape stage

Sunday, April 15th

12-2 pm PODCAST: Brunch w/Chris Featuring Special Guest…

Yeah, you guessed it, it’s Billy Merrit. We’ll dig deep into Billy’s improv philosophy, let you ask some questions, and find out what it’s like to be from Florida. PLUS, there’s Brunch.

3-6 pm WORKSHOP: What is The Game of the Scene?

This workshop will focus on finding and playing the game in improvised scenes. It will demystify the fear of getting game and focus on what is fun in your scene work. Game is a simple language to help you structure what you think is funny, it does not tell you what is and is not funny. That's up to you!

Billy Merritt has been a Performer, Teacher, and a Director of the UCB Theatre since it first opened in New York. He was a founding member of improv groups The Swarm and The Stepfathers in New York, and The Smokes in Los Angeles. He has developed and performed in numerous hit shows throughout his tenure at the UCB such as The Sunshine Gang, Piledriver, My Dinner with Billy, and Brain Town to name a few. As a teacher, Billy has developed many improvised long forms with his students in advanced classes. Such as The Documentary, Improvised One Acts, and the Ninja. His TV credits include a three year run on MTV's Boiling Points, Best Week Ever, Reno 911, Law and Order, Workaholics, Happy Endings, Weeds, News Readers, and Parks and Rec. He was the host of "Uncorked" with Billy Merritt, a food, wine and travel show that can still be seen on Hulu.
