PAINT A HUMMINGBIRD IN IRIDESCENT PASTEL

Skill level: Any, absolute beginner to advanced
Date: Thursday, May 10th from 12:00pm - 3:00pm
Paint with iridescent pastel. Paint hummingbirds using Senelier iridescent soft pastel. You will learn layering techniques and proper color selection to render the iridescent nature of these colorful creatures, as well as how to paint in a landscape background of choice behind your hummingbird. Please purchase or bring with you 9" X 12" sanded pastel paper in the color of your choice. Also bring with you a regular copy size black and white image of your hummingbird, along with any sized color photo of your image or use class images. All supplies except sanded paper will be provided and sanded paper can be purchased at the Depō prior to class.
About the Instructor:
Mary Jane Erard is an award-winning artist painting in soft pastel, oil pastel, gouache and oil. Her works are usually rural landscapes of the US and Europe. During the past 15 years Mary Jane's paintings have been accepted in 60 juried exhibitions and have won over 35 awards. She has also exhibited in over 11 national and international solo shows. Mary Jane's artwork has been published several times in national magazines and books. Three of her paintings were published in the book "Best of Pastel Painters". Mary Jane is a juried member of the Pastel Society of America and a juried member of the Degas Pastel Society. MJ is represented by Collector's Corner at the Toledo Museum of Art where you can find several of her paintings on display at all times in her own corner of the gallery and the Robin B Gallery in Chicago.
