PAINT BIRDS AND BIRCH ON RECLAIMED PALETTE WOOD
This is a two-session class: Saturday, September 22nd and 29th from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
nstructor: Donna Ebert
Level: beginner to advanced, but some painting experience would be helpful
Donna Ebert specializes in decorative painting, and can coach anyone through the process of creating a very sweet painting of a birch with a cardinal and yellow bird.
Learn techniques that will enhance your painting abilities such as how to quickly block in a gradated skyline, how to get exactly right light and shadow on the birch to create the illusion of dimension, and how to make your paintbrushes "do the work for you." Donna will demonstrate easy techniques to create a "no fuss" illusion of birch bark. She will also demo to create foliage using sea sponges, and paper towels...it's so easy you won't believe it! Glazing techniques, highlighting techniques, creating a "focal point" and how to use the color wheel to create pleasing color harmonies will also be discussed. Students will also leave with the confidence and skills to paint more realistic birds time and time again.
Please Note: Due to the level of detail and time required for paint to dry in-between layers, students need to attend both sessions to work on this project. We have attempted to teach more complicated paintings such as this in one, longer 4 hour class and it wasn't as much fun or relaxed as classes taught in two sessions.
We will be using acrylic paints reclaimed palette wood lovingly deconstructed, cut and sanded to perfection by Donna's husband Steve in their shared home studio. Each student will go home with a finished bird and birch painting that would make a lovely gift or addition to your home or cottage. The unique, long slim format of this painting is also easier to display than a larger traditional canvas.
Many of Donna's previous students have stated that what sets her apart from other beginning or step-by-step acrylic painting instructors is her ability guide students to an end product they are actually proud to hang in their homes. Donna makes a focused effort to help students learn techniques that they will be able to use again and again in future paintings. All her classes are designed to instruct and instill long-term painting skills in a fun and relaxed studio setting.
Donna promises to make it "easy-peasy." All materials and step-by-step instructions will be provided. Wear comfortable old clothing, something you won’t mind if a little paint happens to jump on.
