Of Life and Love - a celebration of Lieder and art songs

Come and enjoy an evening of life and love, through the eternal music by composers such as Schubert, Brahms, Stenhammar, Debussy and Chopin.

With you on the journey through the deep forest, the clear lakes, the barren plains and the lonely cottages are mezzo-soprano Ankna Arockiam, baritone Jonas Olsson and pianist Shantanu Patel.

Ankna Arockiam, mezzo-soprano from Hyderabad, has trained in the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She is currently based in Glasgow and has performed in various cities across UK, Europe and India. She has won various awards and is the chairperson of the Association of the European Conservatoires Students’ working group. As a soloist, her recent achievements include a debut at the National Centre of Performing Arts, Mumbai with the Symphony Orchestra of India and Living Voices, under the baton of world-renowned composer Karl Jenkins and Beethoven 9 with the Indian National Youth Orchestra under the leadership of Vijay Upadhyaya in Bangalore. Presently, she is researching the identities of Western Classical musicians in India.

Jonas Olsson hails from Gothenburg, Sweden, and as a resident of Bangalore for almost a decade, Jonas has performed extensively in India, predominantly with a Lieder-repertoire, singing the classics by Schubert, Mendelssohn, Schumann et al, but also introducing pieces by Scandinavian composers to the audience. He heads the vocal department at The Bangalore School of Music, where he coaches advanced voice students in their musical journey and also prepares them for various musical examinations and entrance exams. At the BSM, he also leads The Bangalore Men, the only all-male voices ensemble in India focusing exclusively on the western classical repertoire, which he has performed all over India with.

Shantanu Patel is an aspiring pianist from Ahmedabad, India. After completing his Masters in piano performance and conducting skills, from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, he is currently performing and conducting masterclasses across the country, creating awareness for Western Classical Music and bringing live performances in music scene in India. He has performed extensively in the UK as well.
