David Tewksbury Music describes his music as "locally-grown soulful indie folk." Wisconsin-born, but raised in Charlottesville, his songs draw on the multiple streams that have shaped him, from folk to rock, jazz to gospel. Deeply tied to the central Virginia songwriting community, and described in C-ville Weekly as a "rock poet," he's released the EP "Five Months from October" (2011) and the 11-song "Sun is Rising" album (2016). His song "Daydream" is featured on the 106.1 The Corner's "C'ville Suitcase," a compilation of Charlottesville area artists.
Luke Church, host of WVTF Radio's in-studio show "Roots Down" offers this reflection: "The essence of being . . . the presence of the moment . . . a piercing reflection on life. That is the music of David Tewksbury. Come for the winsome melodies and dancing guitar; stay for the raptured insight into the human condition. Whether he sings of love lost, the trials of a friend, the uncertainty of this adventure of living day to day, or the joy of purpose rediscovered; David opens a door into his world, and helps us find ourselves."
