Cinderella at the North Pier Theatre!
A tale as old as love itself…..
We start in the land of ‘Once upon a time’.. (home of all the best tales) and who better to tell the story than Cinderella’s own fairy Godmother? She meets Cinderella in the woods, whilst disguised as an old woman. When Cinderella passes a kindness test, the Godmother takes her future in hand.
Ok, so far, so good. But now, imagine you are the Prince, the most eligible bachelor in the kingdom and it’s another day of high jinx and hilarity in the Royal Palace. Suddenly your life is turned upside down when the King instructs you to marry – within a week!
Now lots of ladies want to marry you, but your heart has been stolen by a mystery girl you met in the woods. Guess who? Correct! But how do you find her? Well you have a Glittering Ball of course and invite every girl in the land! Simple! Er……isn’t it?……..Hmmm…
Cinderella lives with her loving but penniless father Baron Hardup,. He’s penniless because Cinderella’s two step sisters - horrible, selfish ugly bullies that they are, spend all his money and rip up Cinderella’s ticket for the Ball! Only her friend Buttons and her Godmother are able to help transport Cinderella to the Ball, where she meets you, her handsome prince. Hooray! Job done then. Well, obviously not. She forgets the time, panics and runs away leaving a glass slipper and we’re back where we started. Or are we? This is about as straight forward as a soap opera wedding!
However, this IS the greatest love story ever told and that’s BEFORE we meet Baron Hardup, Buttons, the Broker’s man, the Dreaded Ugly Sisters, Dandini and the wonderful Godmother. There’s a great original musical score, heart-stopping moments of tenderness and pathos, comedy in abundance and lots of audience participation en route to the happiest of endings – Aaahh!
