Nepal Earthquake Recovery Fund (NERF) is a small, independent UK-based charity helping to deliver long-term, community-based recovery solutions following the devastating earthquake that hit Nepal in 2015.
NERF has a focus on the more isolated and vulnerable communities in Nepal, with the ultimate mission to empower Nepalis to help themselves. An effective method of achieving this is through fundraising events behind which Nepalis have provided the core impetus.
One such event will take place at The Castle Cinema on Saturday 21st April 2018 comprising an art exhibition and a screening of recent documentary 'Mountain' - a gripping, dizzying exploration of the beauty and allure of the world's highest peaks, many of which can be found in Nepal. The latest work by acclaimed documentary filmmaker, Jennifer Peedom (Sherpa, 2015), 'Mountain' is a unique and truly ambitious cinematic and musical odyssey with a soundtrack provided by the Australian Chamber Orchestra and narration from Willem Dafoe.
NERF has commissioned a number of highly-skilled Nepali artists to paint original works that really showcase the beauty of this unique country through portraiture, landscapes, abstracts and more. The paintings will be available to buy during the event, and will continue to be exhibited for sale at the venue in the weeks following the event. Half the proceeds from each sale will go the painter and the other half will go towards funding NERF's vital projects in Nepal.
