Join Christina EVERY Thursday from 7:00-8:00pm to explore the energetic, expressive, healing art of SAMBA and Brazilian Movement! ♥

Leave your inhibitions at the door! No previous dance experience necessary. Come ready to sweat, have fun and shake your booty! Bring water to stay hydrated!!!

New month; new theme (novo mês; novo tema)! Samba reggae arose from Salvador, Bahia in the middle of the 20th century in context with the black pride movement growing throughout Brazil. The foundation of Samba Reggae is to recreate, reclaim, liberate and strengthen the black communities (blocos afros) through transformative rhythm and movement.

There are many infamous Samba Reggae groups throughout Bahia, including Olodum, Timbalada and Ilê Aiyê (Ilê Aiyê is also considered Afro-samba because of their variation with the timbal instrument). My personal favorite samba reggae group is an all-female group, Banda Didá (pictured above). (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09NqOo84MkA)

Bring your beautiful energy and spirit; let's sweat it out and honor the meaning behind our movements. Axé.
