KITCH: Kitchen Compositions Soundpainting Workshop
with Nicole Poole
2x4 Productions & Oklahoma StoryWorks and "The Food Project"
Soundpainting is the compositional sign language for shaping performance in real time, created by composer Walter Thompson. Easy to learn for any creative discipline and skill level and thrilling for seasoned performers and amateurs alike, Soundpainting is an exhilarating experience in improvisational performance that taps into your own creativity to take you places you never dreamed of.
"The Food Project" is 2x4 Productions & Oklahoma StoryWorks' community-based exploration of what we eat...and when, where, why, how, with whom; of what we love and what scares us when it comes to food; of how food brings us together, and how it keeps us apart. We'll be performing an original show based on community food stories at The Depot in June.
We're blending these dynamic ingredients to serve up KITCH: Kitchen Compositions, a creative community composition around the theme of “the kitchen” – we’ll share food stories and a nosh, and in short order, we’ll cook up a spicy performance guaranteed to broaden your palate!
Curious community members and artists of all disciplines are encouraged to come play!
Bring your instruments.
No instrument? Bring kitchen utensils, ingredients and/or gadgets that can make sustainable and repeatable noise. No gadgets? Bring a soup pot and a wooden spoon!
Need some vocal material? Bring a recipe from Grandma, or Julia Child, or the back of a Campbell’s soup can. Bring a poem, a song, a burger jingle that’s been stuck in your head for a month.
Visual artist? Bring a spattered apron, a string of tea towels, or a tattered tablecloth and hoist it as your Food Pirate flag.
Bring your body, your voice, your imagination!
Nicole will teach some signs to the group, and we'll begin playing together. No judgments. Just play.
And eat. Bring a snack to share—Twinkies, macarons, baba ganoush, Spam sushi, it’s all good. We'll talk and nosh after we play. Or we might play with food. (We don't call it "The Food Project" for nothin'.)
Ages 16 and up. Language and ideas could get salty.
Free! No such thing as a free lunch? Maybe so, but a free workshop? Absolutely.
