This year, what will YOU give?

The Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts hosts the 6th Annual Valley Gives Day on May 1, 2018. Valley Gives Day is a 24-hour online giving event for the Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts. In past years this event has raised millions of dollars and helped over 500 local nonprofits to increase their capacity and share their stories with tens of thousands of donors who care about making our region the best it can be for everyone.

The Drama Studio

Our programs enrich and validate the adolescent experience through our conservatory-style acting classes and revolutionary literacy-focused outreach programs. We provide theatre training from the ground up -- from 101 to comedy improv and stage combat, from production and technology to playwriting. What we consistently hear from our community and witness amongst our students, however, is that the magic of the Drama Studio is not just in the beauty of our performances, or the strength of our conservatory, but in the significance of our community. Our students rely on the Drama Studio, not only for theatre and literary education, but also for vital mentorship and personal support. They call this place home, a space where they can feel safe to explore their emotions, impulses, and imaginations. Our students are the reason that we do this crucial work.

Students in our community outreach programs at Springfield public elementary schools say that Drama Studio programming is their only opportunity to experience live theatre and learn, hands-on, how a play comes to life from page to stage. The Drama Studio is a pillar of arts and culture education in Springfield, serving over 3,500 students annually.

The Drama Studio experienced an urgent housing crisis in late 2017: purchase our building or move out. Thanks to our Board of Directors and some longtime friends of the Studio, we were able to act quickly. In just a few short months, we have secured financing and purchased our building. This year, we begin a new and exciting journey to increase our capacity and offer enormous opportunity to share the magic of the Drama Studio with the Springfield community at large.

To ensure our success during this transitional time, we rely on the strength of our Community to sustain all Drama Studio programming, and our day to day operations. This year, we need to raise $175,000 overall to ensure the success of our conservatory and community outreach programs.

With your help, we will raise $5,000 on Valley Gives day alone!

We as a community have worked for 31 years to build The Drama Studio into the safe haven that it is for our students, and the paragon of culture it is in Springfield. When you support The Drama Studio, then you, too, are part of the magic.

Thank you for keeping the Drama Studio alive and flourishing! Your support benefits over 3,500 young people, ages 6-18, in the Greater Springfield area.
