Meet Mia Monet of The Retort United Poetry Slam Team, tonight at The Drunken Retort she will be our feature, this will also be used as a Fundraiser to send this incredible human to Nationals!
Mia Monét is a Detroit native and has recently become the Grand Slam Champion of both Detroit and Grand Rapids simultaneously. She has only been in the poetry/ Slam scene for a little over a year but in that time she has accomplished a lot. She competed in the 2017 NPS Last Chance Slam where she took 2nd place and secured a spot on the Last Chance Slam Team “Cross Country Collective”. They went on to finish in the top 30 teams in the nation. She is also the 2018 IWPS rep for Detroit. 2018 will also mark the release of the first project of her career titled “YEAR 1: A Collection of Poems And Stories”
Mia Monét is a bold personality with a big heart to match. By day she’s a community organizer and activist working with groups like the ACLU, Americorps, and Teen H.Y.P.E. She has a unique way of connecting with people that can be felt through her work. She is excited for opportunity create with a diverse group of voices and dominate at NPS 2018 with the Retort United Slam team.
