Join us on Sunday, May 20, at the Egyptian Theatre in Downtown Boise to hear the Boise Phil Chamber Players perform "Seven Seascapes" by Kevin Puts, and "Chamber Symphony no. 1, op. 9" (or “Kammersymphonie”) by Arnold Schoenberg.

"Seven Seascapes" premiered in August, 2013, and was commissioned for the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival. In the words of the composer himself:

"Though the music in Seven Seascapes is often both visual and visceral, it is largely with this “inward” approach that I composed the work’s seven movements, all of which are accompanied by excerpts from various poetry. These brief quotations aided me in giving voice and focus to my own fear and wonder about the ocean’s mysteries, and in giving the work its shape."

"Kammersymphonie" was premiered in 1907 under the baton of the composer himself--Arnold Schoenberg. It is well known for its use of quartal harmony (google it!). Schoenberg conducted the piece again in 1913 as part of the famed Skandalkonzert, in which the attendees rioted in protest and prematurely ended the concert.
