Come see what this is all about... Dawn Tyson, Laughing Yoga practitioner , works full time as a Case Manager for a non profit agency and is also a single mom of an adult son.
While on her own personal journey of self love and self care she came across this training being offered at TOIVO. A local holistic wellness center located in Hartford CT. She became a certified laughing yoga teacher in 2017 and has been providing this training in other wellness centers. She believes this could touch many people of all ages and cultures.
Laughing Yoga was first discovered in March 1995 by a medical doctor in Mumbai, India by Dr. Madan Kataria MD. He also wrote an article on Laughter-The Best Medicine for health journal. Then he decided to have a laughing session at 7AM on March 13th at a public park he called “the Laughing Club”. The small group grew to over 50 people. Then Dr. Kataria later brought it to the United States in 1997.

The first objective is to get more laughter into your own life.
Laughter Yoga is unique exercise routine which combines unconditional laughter with yogic breathing (Pranayama). Anyone can laugh without relying on humor, jokes or comedy. Laughter is initially simulated as physical exercise while maintaining eye contact with others in the group and promoting childlike playfulness. In most cases this is soon leads to real and contagious laughter. Science has proved that the body cannot differentiate between simulated and real laughter. Laughter Yoga is the only technique that allows adults to achieve sustained hearty laughter without involving cognitive thought.
Laughter Yoga sessions start with gentle warm-up techniques which include stretching, chanting, clapping, and body movement. These help break down inhibitions and develop feelings of childlike playfulness. Breathing exercises are used to prepare lungs for laughter followed by a series of “laughter exercises” that combine the method of acting and visualization techniques with playfulness.
A laughter yoga session finishes with a deep “Laughter Mediation” which is a session of instructed laughter whereby participants sit or lie down and allow natural laughter to flow from within like a fountain. This powerful experience last often leads to a healthy emotional catharsis and also a feeling of release and joyfulness that can last for days. This generally followed by guided relaxation exercise. Tickets are 15.00 and can be purchased on mind body.
