The Garage is open throughout the summer to provide support free of charge to our community’s most vulnerable population -
its youth living in poverty. These students gain otherwise unavailable resources that expand their perspective and provide applicable life experiences.
This April, The Garage is counting on the whole community to come together to support our students to #EmpowerToExplore. The Garage must raise $50,000 by the end of April.
Each week, we will be focusing on a specific piece of our summer program.
This week, The Garage is focusing on raising $20,000 for our Career Compass Program, and we already have $2,700 committed!
Career Compass is a focused professional internships for 10 Garage high school students, paying approximately $2,000 per student for 8 weeks.
A program for youth between the ages of 14-19, which combines a summer-long paid internship funded by the Garage with a challenging life and leadership skills development curriculum. Youth are placed individually or in pair of two at Host Sites, where they participate in part-time, meaningful direct-service activities, which are to be specific and identifiable with measurable outcomes, address a community need and provide a direct benefit to the community and to Host Sites. Multiple days throughout the summer, youth take part in extensive life and leadership skill building seminars, in which local, expert practitioners and staff present workshops. In addition, they participate in team and community building activities and engage in service reflection activities, all designed to provide valuable skills and support their healthy and positive development. Although Career Compass is a short-term program, our goal is to equip youth with transferable life and work-readiness, and leadership skills along with the knowledge to actively support their community.
Your tax-deductible gift will make a sustainable difference in our students' lives, the future of our community.
