This series is dedicated to opening the dialogue concerning the drug epidemic that is plaguing our communities. Open the Dialogue’s mission is to facilitate a dialogue among caretakers with children in grades 5-12 and beyond – children ages 12 and up are welcome. Our hope is that through this four part series, we can begin to eliminate the fear, secrecy, shame, and stigma that are the hallmarks of this national emergency. We don’t have all of the answers, but opening the dialogue is the key to eliminating the stigma surrounding substance misuse and to end the drug epidemic in our communities.
Part 3 explores the journeys of 6 individuals recovering from addiction. The evening’s panelists are Gary Davis, Families Helping Families; Sharon Porey, Family Counselor, Clearbrook Treatment Centers; Michael Arcangeletti, Assistant Clinical Director, A Better Today; Katie Gross; Evan Glass; PJ Bone (absent); and Martin Russo, CRS, The Wright Center (absent).
“I am a 36 year old mother, wife, sister, daughter, and employee. I am celebrating five years of continuous recovery. My journey was long and heartbreaking. I am living proof that no matter how bad things get, you can always change your life. Some people aren’t lucky enough to have that chance. This is why I share my story in the hopes that this will reach someone who is caught in the grips of this lethal illness.” - Katie Gross
