Seattle's Headwaves returns to the delicious Golden Bear!!
The music is hazy dream pop, heady rhythms and lush synth rock.
Ryan Barber inherently writes folk songs about love, depression and desire, but he had the urge to make people move in a way folk songs simply couldn’t do. He had the need for his lyrics to smoothly float over a lush bed of instruments and heady dance driven rhythms. Teaming up with friend Larson Haakenstad and producer, Randall Dunn, the sound of Headwaves was created over the period of two years.

Schuyler Petersen has been producing experimental electropop as Makebelief since 2014. Petersen cut his teeth as a multi-instrumentalist in the Midwest, studying music production in Minneapolis before landing on the West Coast in 2015. Building on improvisational methods, Makebelief morphs pop music into an expansive audio topography, reimagining Auto-Tune and blending traditional instrumentation with extensive sample collage. His mosaic style is informed by electronica, trap, pop and indie stylings to create an esoteric sound which has been described as evoking “big feelings”. With an emphasis on engaging live performances, Makebelief is a project that aims to overwhelm audiences with emotion. His new album, Confusion Fruit, is set for release in 2018.
