Come join us for this afternoon of willow weaving & gardening! We'll work together to weave our willow structures and sow seeds for the new season.
The Green Living Lab’s living willow arcs embrace visitors with a big green hug, creating a feeling of balance between nature & the high office buildings around.
Our living willow structures are sculpted & cared for by VU PhD student Daniel Sagath. Daniel will teach volunteers how to weave new twigs & branches into the existing structures to further develop the form & to strengthen the structures.
Some Wonderful Willow facts!
* Willow is one of the most sustainable building materials of all! Just cut a branch off a willow tree, plant it & watch another willow tree grow!
* Willow bark has been used for pain-relief for over 2,000 years as it contains salicin, which is converted to salicylic acid in the body. Salicylic acid is closely related to aspirin.
Please bring gloves if you prefer, although working with the willow using bare hands is easy. The flexibility of willow is a joy to work with - come find out for yourself!
Children are welcome if accompanied by an adult.
Drinks, fruit & cookies will be provided. After our work is done, we'll make a fire and if the weather is nice, we'll have a vegan BBQ! Gezellig!
