Time flies & before you have time to goose a hobbit,
Beltane will be upon us again!
This year, Saturday May 5th, 2018. Gates open 1:00 pm.
Come join us with the Green Man Pagan Community Tribe for a good old-fashioned Beltane Rite! This celebration is not at the store, but at our usual off site Beltane location, which is a most amazing magical location, hidden in the outer reaches of feariedom, adjacent to Van Nuys.
Warning: because this ritual is offsite, pre-payment at the store to reserve your space is absolutely required. Address and directions will given out with pre-payment.
We have 7 years of holding our prices while costs have gone up. So this year we're holding the same price for the early bird special… and increasing by $5 for later purchasers.
Early bird special $23 with a $3 discount for cash only through The Green Man Store.
After April 1st the ticket price increases $5 to $28 with $3 discount for cash.
No charge for kids under 13.
Warning: Overall the theme of the whole festival may be a bit suggestive and adult; however, as long as you’re cool with that, kids are most welcome under their parents' supervision and we expect there will be some present. We ask all parents to please help their little faeries to abide by the rules of the location owners!
Come, enjoy old world Pagan Pole dancing. Rub up against nature and a few frolicking nature lovers as we turn this year’s Wheel. Frolicker rubbing, is just another old world festival practice! And one can never have enough frolickers, right? Join us to experience the singeing of your un-speakables as you jump the Beltane Fire! Beat the ground, dance and make merry like a loon with bells on! Mischief, mayhem, what a pair, a bawdy line twix foul and fair!
We truly do have an amazing and diverse Community that gathers around the Green Man. One regular group found to be hosting events at the store are our friends Reclaiming LA. Who, as in recent years will be leading us in a Community Spiral Dance. It’s like a giant game of pagan twister that gets you entangled up in a serpent's knot of love power!
This year we plan on starting the festivities at 1:30 pm with a drumming circle. And to lead that we have our own beloved Goat joining us from the wastelands beyond the California State border. So please bring a drum and join the jam fest. Or wear something sexy so you can entertain the drummers with a dance!
As usual this Festival Gathering is a Pot Luck Feast…so please bring a dish to share...and what refreshments you may want. Last year we learned that people grazing from the Potluck all day rather than people drinking on empty stomachs turned out to be a better way to go! So this year, like last year, we will be opening the Potluck at 2.00pm, one hour after we open the gates. This way people can graze as they like throughout the Beltane Festival. Not that eating to soak up the booze actually helps our coordinated activities! The Maypole Dance just seems to crash into mayhem every year regardless!
The Spiral Dance will kick off the Main Rite somewhere in the neighborhood of 3.00pm. I say somewhere in the neighborhood as folks do have issue finding parking and so arrive late. And we are a large gathering; so getting folks in just takes a bit more time! Plus, festival leaders may be possessed by Fearies at this point, so ballpark times is really the best we can hope for. The Main Rite is expected to go about an hour, give or take; depending on how lost we get in the rite. After the Ritual we can continue with the feasting and socializing…jumping the Bale Fires (Naked? Of course it’s far too dangerous with your clothes on. Kidding!). Or perhaps, if you like, we can entice Goat into some more drumming?
Remember people this is a potluck FEAST, so please do bring a dish to share, we want a sumptuous table to entice our… and what refreshments you would like to drink. Out of respect to us, please abide by the Law: people need to be over 21 to drink. Adults who are over 21 are asked to please be adult and drink responsibly so we can all get to have some fun.
This year we are doing this event on May 5th, the weekend after the traditional May 1st For some of us in LA, this means a possible collision with Cinco de Mayo. But a heads up, as some may know, our event normally winds down and is over before sunset. So this could be that perfect forerunner to continuing with an evening of partying Cinco de Mayo elsewhere!
