Idle Empress, Half Gringa, & Humbird

Doors 7:30pm :: Music 8pm :: 21+
After traversing 5 continents and 20 countries with only a guitar and a backpack, Humbird returns home to sing songs from the edge of the world. Combining a wintry longing with the warmth of a familiar folktale, Humbird stretches traditional genres of folk and Americana to embrace the unexpected. This music invites a refreshing dissonance into the house, it leaves breadcrumbs along the path and reflects light back at the stars.
Half Gringa (2nd) is the songwriting project of Izzy Olive
An emotional scab-picker, her work explores the confluence of Latinx and Midwestern identity. Her first LP, Gruñona, reveals a palimpsest of wounds upon scars. Contemplative and choleric, all manner of memorials to the past are revealed—mountains, dive bars, orchards, trains, expressways, tiny kitchens, Chicago, Caracas, and outer space. Half Gringa's debut coaxes confession after confession out of Olive's insistent guitar and undaunted vocals. Simultaneously boastful, scathing, forgiving, and hopeful, Gruñona confronts the human ache of wanting and curse of taking. It recognizes that an identity is a journey that names you.
