Join Mark Thrapp on April 7th from 3-5pm for Yin Yang Yoga Flow!
A blend of Yin Yoga (a slow, deep, and relaxing stretch) paired with Five Element-based Qigong and Yang Yoga (to strengthen and energize the entire body) built upon the energetic metaphors of the five Taoist elements of Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire. Transitions are fluid and challenge the full range of motion, and there are subtle influences of ballet and martial arts in the mix.
No prerequisites are required, but if you have any knee injuries that aren't able to be worked around to be less painful, this class may be too challenging. Most of the Yin cycle emphasizes fully bent knees for extended periods of time, which can be problematic for those with chronic knee injuries.
Mark has been a professional dancer for over 16 years, a serious martial artist for over 8 years, and a yoga practitioner and teacher for over 8 years. He saw how each discipline aided in the training of the others, so he developed a philosophy of movement training that blends all of these disciplines together into a single seamless system that he calls KUDAYO (kung fu, dance, yoga). He has taught snippets of KUDAYO since 2009 in NYC, Portland, and Puget Sound. He is visiting NYC for only a couple of weeks, and wants to share his latest training techniques with you.
