This is a webinar from the Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Department at The New School - presented by MA TESOL alumnus Jessica Coyle.

"Why won't my students talk? Why are my students so afraid of appearing foolish? Why are my students so much more shy in English?" Too often, our students are stymied in their self-expression not by a lack of creativity or even limited language skills, but because they self-judge and apply a stifling filter to their ideas and expression due to the unattainable goal (often unwittingly encouraged by us, their teachers) of "perfection." In this webinar, we will go over exercises that can be incorporated into any class. These activities lower the affective filter by injecting some laughter and fun into the lesson, while providing valuable in-the-moment practice that will nudge your students out of their perfectionist anxiety and into expressing themselves more clearly with less self-judgement.

About the Presenter: MA TESOL graduate and The New School part-time lecturer Jessica Coyle has been teaching ESL both in the United States and abroad for eight years, and has trained in, performed and taught improvisational techniques in The United States, Korea, China, and Canada.
