Join us for this month’s ABV Club as we discuss the most complex and mysterious of beer’s principle four ingredients: yeast! The single-celled microorganism that’s responsible for ALL of the alcoholic beverages that we know and enjoy, yeast is most prominently expressed in the form of beer. Although much fervor in the craft beer world surrounds hops and malts and barrels and adjuncts, yeast is arguably the most important ingredient in beer, putting its stamp upon the backbone of a brew in terms of flavor, body and its ultimate alcohol content.
For this discussion, we’re ecstatic to welcome in one of the best yeast-wranglers that we know: Eric Rykal of Modicum Brewing. Eric will be discussing many of the scientific properties of yeast, the differences between ale, lager and wild yeasts, and some of the challenges of harnessing the power of an army of microscopic beer-makers. Luckily for all of us, his discussion will also include a sampling of various Modicum brews, each with a unique interpretation on the properties of various forms of yeast.
This should be an incredible evening of learning and sampling for the beer lover in you, and a rare opportunity to sample some Modicum beers outside of their nearby brewery!
Class is $15/person and lasts approximately 1.5 hours.
