Encaustic art is the process of painting with melted oil-tinted natural beeswax. Each layer of beeswax is fused with a heat source; heat gun, hot iron, or blowtorch. As they layers are built up, techniques such as embedding, gouging, and mark making are used to add colour, depth, and texture to the work.
In this 5 hour workshop we will explore the fundamentals of encaustics; layering, fusing, embedding, mark making and gouging, photo transfers and the stylus tool.....but we will also dive a little deeper into mixed media techniques.
Participants will have the opportunity to really explore the fundamentals but also play with pan pastels, stencils, and ink. This workshop is perfect for anyone looking to connect further with their creative side. We will look at what it means to let go of intentions associated with our artistic practice and how to simply engage in the moment.
We will be working on birch panels in this workshop as well as on 100% recycled fibre mat boards. Taxes and all supplies are included in the workshop fee.
Workshop Fee: $150 due at time of registration. A refund will be issued if cancellation occurs within 72 hours of the workshop.
