Seasoned local comedians Kara O'Connor and Emily Rychlick teach a series of musical comedy workshops - for all skill levels and backgrounds!

Musical Sketch Comedy #1 - What is Musical Sketch Comedy?
[Sunday, May 6th @ 4pm-6pm]
An introduction to songwriting and movement in musical sketch comedy! We will explore how to brainstorm new ideas with music and how music can enhance your comedic ideas. We'll discuss some basic sketch writing tools and provide lab time to play around and dive into new ideas or a piece you have already been working on. ZERO comedic, musical, performing experience necessary. This is a supportive and introductory workshop and all are welcome and encouraged to join us!

Musical Sketch Comedy #2 - Developing and Staging Your Ideas
[Sunday, May 20th @ 4pm-6pm]
This workshop discusses writing lyrics, musical editing, musical mapping in movement as well as blocking and staging. We will take time to start on that song or choreographed number you're excited about as well as give you helpful tips and tricks to build your own simple musical piece in the future. Whether you want to create your own musical piece, or just incorporate your favorite R&B song into a sketch - this workshop is for YOU. Workshop #1 is NOT a requirement and all levels of experience are welcome!

Musical Sketch Comedy #3 - Refining and Presenting
[Sunday, May 27th @ 4pm-6pm]
You've been working on a piece of musical comedy and you want to hone it and make it the best it can be! You want to go deeper and make your piece even better. This is the workshop for you! We get as deep as you want to go. From working with digital music and editing programs to defining narrative through movement - we are here to workshop what you're excited about. Instructor Bios -
Hi! I'm Kara O'Connor, a sketch comedian and armature motivational creator who enjoys helping others make sparkly and stimulating shit! I'm a proud member of Seattle sketch group Day Job and I really like puppies. SOME of my musical comedy inspirations are Garfunkel and Oats, Steve Martin, The Flight of the Conchords and The Lonely Island. I use both analog and digital song writing as well as choreography and movement in my writing.

I'm Emily Rychlick, a sketch comedian and armature dance enthusiast. I'm a member of sketch groups Villains and Look Both Ways. My favorite kind of sketch has no dialogue, a lot of drama, and a Bollywood style surprise dance number to everyone's least favorite song from the early 2000's ("In the End" by Linkin Park).
