Followed by a discussion with the film critic Rami Abdel Razek

A powerful observational documentary set inside a single room in Folsom Prison (California), “The Work” follows a four-day group therapy retreat. The raw and revealing process offers a rare look past the cinder block walls, steel doors and the dehumanizing tropes in our culture to reveal a movement of change and redemption that transcends what we think of as rehabilitation.

The film has won the Audience Choice Award at Chicago International Film Festival, the Cinema Eye Honors Award, the Audience Award at Sheffield International Documentary Festival and the Grand Jury Award for Feature Documentary at SXSW Film Festival. It has been nominated for San Diego Film Critics Society Awards for Best Documentary, Online Film Critics Society Awards, Gotham Independent Film Award, Austin Film Critics Award and Harrell Award for Best Documentary at Camden International Film Festival.
