Calgary's Miesha & The Spanks enter Part II of their cross-Canada GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS Tour! Part I took them to the East Coast and back, and now it is time to head West.
Released March 9, GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS has received a lot of love both from radio and the press, currently sitting at #7 on CBC Radio 3's Top 30, and #1 on the National Campus/Community Loud charts! Here's what some rad publications had to say about the record:
"Lost Boy" channels Iggy Pop atop its dark-surf vibes, offering a weary take on navigating the world at large, while the heavy, driving title track opines "all my 20s spent on boys and bars / and the boys have lost their fun." There's a certain resignation to Miesha Louie's lyrics here, but they always seems couched in grit and defiance rather than defeat. Elsewhere, "Atmosphere" feels like an instant pop-punk classic, handily earning its clappable chorus, and Louie flexes her six-string muscle on opening stomper "First Love, First Blood."
With just guitarist-vocalist Louie and lone Spank Sean Hamilton on drums, Girls Girls Girls seeks to maximize the impact of the duo's Spartan palette. Producers Paul Rawson and Buzzcocks drummer Danny Farrant focus and clarify the sound: the guitar roars, the drums pummel, the vocals compel. And unlike the Crüe it lifts its title from, Miesha's Girls Girls Girls looks to unpack the good times as sharply as it rallies for them."
“Bold, brash, bursting with bravado, oozing with emotion, Louie and Sean Hamilton, who are the 2-piece nucleus of Miesha and the Spanks, switch on the high-octane that flows throughout the record.”
“… sure to give any die-hard rock and roll fan hope for the future of the genre.”
FYI MUSIC NEWS
“a beat that will have you jumping up and down, bass that will take you to another time, and an angsty, lost sound, “Lost Boy” is the band’s garage rock at its best.”
“a 10-track blast of high-energy, scrappy punk, singer Miesha Louie wailing like Corin Tucker.”
“The Calgary based duo channel some Royal Blood and Deap Valley… a bit of a Hives feel (mixing in some Ravonettes for good measure). Miesha & The Spanks show their knack for penning a hooky and melodious rocker with 1950s sensibilities wrapped in a 1990s grunge package.”
“a filthy rocket of pure jet-fuel up the nostril, with surf rock sensibilities, a grunge groove and hair metal swagger.”
12" vinyl copies of GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS will be available at the show! If you want to grab it sooner, ask your local record shops (like Milkcrate Records) to order it from Outside Distribution! You can also buy it digitally from BandCamp or iTunes, and stream it in full on Spotify!
Indie rock garbage from Nelson, BC. Taking themselves way too seriously since 2015.
