In this workshop I will provide guidance on how to meditate and explore the links between our wellbeing, self-awareness and meditation. We will also discuss the every day things in life that can cause unhappiness, the part we play in that and how we can make positive change.
The Workshop will include two meditation practices, a yoga Nidra relaxation to help prepare your mind and body for meditation.
Yoga Nidra translates to Yogic sleep, it is the state of consciousness between being awake and asleep. The body becomes completely relaxed and you become more aware of your inner self. This is facilitated by a guided verbal relaxation that I will provide. As the body relaxes the senses except for hearing will become less sensitive. Following the Yoga Nidra the body and mind will be ready for meditation.
The meditation will focus on awareness of the natural breath, this is known in Sanskrit as Prana Samayama. We focus on the natural breath as it keeps us grounded in the reality of the body, it strengthens our conscious mind leading to greater cognitive control and emotional resilience and it cultivates awareness of the subconscious mind where our thoughts, feelings, reactions and behavioural tendencies originate.
The practice of meditation creates the opportunity for an increased sense of self awareness. This will lead to insights that you may not have been previously aware of; however, you may find that you were always aware but chose to ignore. We will investigate what a meditation practice can provide and look at what you may need to consider and change in your own behaviours and beliefs.
There will be a follow up session on Saturday 16th June 3:00 - 4:00pm, the follow up is intended to be an opportunity to ask any questions having had the opportunity to practice meditation at home. This session will also include a meditation practice.
Cost £14 for this initial session or £20 for both sessions.
