The Third Eye presents a rare Wellington performance by top international jazz musicians, not to be missed!
Katya Sourikova was raised in St Petersburg and London, and has always had a diverse musical and cultural background. After training as a classical pianist at the prestigious Guildhall School and then the Royal College of Music, she began a long exploration of Jazz, finding her musical voice somewhere between these two worlds both as a composer and improviser.
Joining her are Craig Walters, a tenor saxophonist originating from Dunedin, who performs at most major jazz festivals in Australia; Nick Tipping, a double bass player, who presents RNZ Concert’s weekly jazz show Inside Out and morning show, The Works, and has performed at clubs and bars around the world; and Mark Lockett, one of New Zealand's top drummers, who has played with some of the finest jazz musicians on the international jazz scene today.
Tickets are $20 from www.undertheradar.co.nz, and door sales are also available.
"Genre-binding beautiful, lyrical and nuanced music that moves freely and organically along the spectrum of jazz, both American and European, as well as folk music and classical music, without subscribing fully to any genre but embracing it all." - Eyal Hareuveni, All About Jazz, USA
