HUMANITIES SALON - THE SHOE PROJECT
TUESDAY APRIL 17, 2018 - 6:30 PM
The Humanities section presents a thought-provoking and timely performance by participants from The Shoe Project. Now in its sixth year, The Shoe Project is a 10-week writing and performance workshop for immigrant and refugee women created by novelist Katherine Govier and incubated at the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto. With coaching from veteran Canadian writers and theatre professionals, the women enhance their writing and public speaking skills in English and become more self-assured and comfortable in Canadian society. For more information on the Project, see http://www.theshoeproject.online/index.htm
During the Salon evening, the women will tell the stories of their arrival in Canada and new life here, using a pair of their shoes as inspiration – a symbol of their journeys. Katherine Govier will also share the story of how the Shoe Project began.
Light refreshments and cash bar, $25.
