The Union Gallery will be hosting a poetry reading in celebration of National Poetry Month on Wednesday, April 18, 6:30-8pm. The gallery invites student and emerging young poets to apply. Selected poets will be invited to participate in the event at the Union Gallery (1st Floor Stauffer Library, Queen’s University). Poets will have seven to ten minutes to perform his or her piece(s). Members of the public are invited to attend this free poetry reading.
The Union Gallery will be exhibiting the 4th year BFA student show, Course of Action, at the time of the poetry event. Course of Action demonstrates the differences in the process of art making. Writing is like visual artistry in this way.
Writers have their own methods for creating work. Each starts off with a blank page and can create anything from it. For this reason, poets are asked to reflect on the process of writing and their individual style. All forms of art have individuality, and creation comes from research and experience. Poets will be given an opportunity to present work that is based on what makes them unique as poets and as people.
