A great mix of different types of music from traditional and contemporary fiddle all the way to Nick Mintenko's new original songs.

Nick Mintenko
After Nick Mintenko graduated from the Victoria Conservatory of Music with a diploma in Double Bass Jazz Performance (2013) he started touring Canada, the USA, and Europe with some of western Canada’s most notable acts (The Bills, Marc Atkinson, West My Friend). After four years as a collaborator and supporting musician Nick channeled his experiences, inspirations, and knowledge to record and release his debut solo album “What I Thought I Knew” (2017).

After receiving positive reviews and comparisons (Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Patrick Watson, Owen Pallett) Nick spent the spring and summer performing before buckling down to record yet another album. (Notable performances include the Upstairs Cabaret, Victoria BC - Ironwood Stage, Calgary AB - Guilt&Co, Vancouver BC).

Set to release in Spring 2018, Nick’s yet untitled sophomore album features a voice, sensibility, and compositions that are far bolder than on his debut.

Joining Nick and Quin at the Vault in April 21st will be Marshall Wildman on drums (Sam Weber, Foxglove), and Eryn Shapre on vocals (Mildly Wild, Eryn Sharpe Trio).

Quin Etheridge-Pedden

He began his musical journey at age 6 when he started Suzuki violin private lessons with Trish Clair-Peck (now Trish Horrocks) as well as a beginner fiddle group at the Nanaimo Conservatory. After one year of classical violin it was clear that Quin was destined to be a fiddler and he henceforth focused all his energy and education on fiddle music. He has been taking lessons since then with Trish and Geoff Horrocks of Cross Canada Fiddle.

Quin has been a member of Fiddelium for 6 years. Fiddelium is a small group of young musicians who perform in and around Nanaimo at many events such as festivals, private gatherings, markets, and community celebrations. The music they play is mostly traditional fiddle music, but with an interesting twist. Their arrangements are groovy and high-energy, and are created especially for them by directors Geoff and Trish Horrocks. www.fiddelium.com

He has recently released his first solo CD, Embark. Embark was released on May 1st 2017. It is an eclectic mix of traditional fiddle and new contemporary.
