THEATRE 29 CASTS THE SAUCY BROADWAY MUSICAL “FIRST DATE”
Theatre 29 proudly announces primary casting for their spring production of the 2018 theatrical season, “First Date, The Musical”.
This contemporary sweet and sassy new Broadway musical, making its Inland Empire debut, set with a feisty rock n’ roll score and an intermission-less 90-minute roller coaster run time, uncovers the facades, the fears and the foibles experienced through the course of one hilariously awkward blind date.
Helmed by the multi award-winning team of Director Charles Harvey, Musical Director Kathryn Ferguson and Choreographer Lisa Goldberg, “First Date” will bring the romance weekends beginning April 27 through May 20th at the community theater on Sullivan Road in Twentynine Palms.
Opposites attract in this uproarious adult romantic musical comedy about the chances we take to find love. When tightly wound Aaron is set up with cool girl Casey, a quick drink turns into a hilarious dinner served with sides of Google background checks, fake emergency phone calls, a slew of bad boy and uptown girl exes, and some seriously saucy chemistry. Can this mismatched pair turn what could be a dining disaster into something special before the check arrives, or end up at another table for one?
In the roles of our star-crossed lovers, Aaron and Casey, are Theatre 29 veteran performers Chris Fleischman and Katie Fleischman. As the venerable waiter to our duo as well as a variety of other more illusionary characters is Joe Rego. In a multitude of “imagined” characters, combing the gambit of slightly misogynistic best friends, chastising older sisters, bad boy exes, the “One” who got away, dead Jewish grandmothers, and overly dramatic gay best buds are Char Childs, Kevin Myers, Leigh-Ann Crummett and Lyle Williams.
Director Charles Harvey says, “This is the perfect date night whether it is your first or your thousandth. Leave the kids at home and have a blast! You will not stop laughing from beginning to end, with even a little pathos to make you reflect. We have all experienced some piece of this show in our romantic lives. It is extremely relatable. A little naughty and a lot hilarious!” Due to adult language and adult situations, parental guidance is advised.
“FIRST DATE, THE MUSICAL” will play Friday and Saturday evenings beginning April 27th at 7:00PM as well as Sunday matinees at 2:30PM through May 20th.
