Jim Calder, Master Teacher and Head of Movement in Tisch Grad Acting, will be taking you through Commedia exercises, mask work, and improvisation
Devin Shacket, casting director on House of Cards: Season II and artistic director of The New York Drama Center will assist in on-camera work as well as give perspectives on approaching the audition from a casting agent's perspective.
Representatives from Tisch Special Programs and Undergraduate Drama will also be there to answer questions about the application process, scholarships, and studying abroad.
Master Teacher and Head of Movement at NYU Tisch Graduate Acting. Jim founded the Commedia in Florence program in 2001 and since has become Artistic Director of the Summer Theater Festival at La Pietra in Florence. In residence each summer is the Continuum Company, a group of Graduate Acting alumni and other artists who come to Florence every summer to develop classical and new works. The Continuum Company has had in residence some of Americas most exciting artists, including playwrights Tarell McCraney, (Moonlight, The Brothers Size), and Danai Gurira (Eclipsed, Familiar), as well as the actors Sterling K. Brown (Black Panther, This Is Us, The People vs O.J. Simpson), Nina Arianda (Venus In Fur –Tony Award-winner), Andre Holland (Moonlight, The Knick, 42, American Horror Story), Susan Watson (This Is Us), and Logan Marshal Green (24, The O.C., Prometheus).
Devin Shacket is a casting director, on camera audition coach and teacher, and actress. As a casting professional, her most notable casting credits include all 13 episodes of House of Cards: Season II, alongside Emmy Award-winning casting director, Julie Schubert. She served as casting director for the award-winning indie film Good Funk, and currently serves as the New York casting director for San Francisco Playhouse. She has been a guest lecturer at NYU Tisch Stonestreet Studios, SF State, SOCAPA, and several private studios in NYC. Students and private coaching clients have appeared on Bull, Quantico, Escape at Dannemora, Iron Fist, Jack Ryan, Tyrant, and Switched at Birth.
Passionate about actor training, in 2016, Devin founded The New York Drama Center; a center for professional actor training, dedicated to provide professional and semi-professional actors access to master acting teachers. She currently serves as Artistic Director.
