UIA's NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home (Combined course: Basic & Advanced).

Teaches students the knowledge, skills and attitude essential for avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, effective and responsible use of a concealed pistol for self-defense outside the home.

Students have the opportunity to attend this course using a quality, strong-side, hip holster that covers the trigger, or a holster purse. From a review of safe firearms handling and proper mindset, to presentation from concealment and multiple shooting positions, this course contains the essential skills and techniques needed to prevail in a life-threatening situation.

The NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home series is divided into two levels which we combine into 1 (PPOTH Basic and PPOTH Advanced). A total of 14 hours of training(3-4 Hour in classroom & 8+ on the range!) We will meet at the Indoor Range on Friday evening at 6AM. Saturday we will be at the Outdoor the range starting at 9AM. Once you have registered we will send out a detailed email with directions/instructions etc.

This course is co-taught buy certified Instructors with years of experience +active & retired LEO's.

Note: ANY holster that utilizes the index or trigger finger of the shooting hand to disengage a locking device to release the handgun is now disallowed from ANY UIA Downrange class, training, event, or any function that we host or have involvement with.

The mindset of concealed carry
Legal aspects of self defense(Taught by Brad Co Sheriff Walters)
Modes of carrying concealed handguns
Skills for defensive handgun use
Defensive shooting positions (cover and concealment)

Required Equipment:
A valid PA State permit
A working and reliable defensive handgun
300 Rounds ammunition
(3)Magazines or speedloaders
A quality holster
A magazine holster
Eye and ear protection
Concealment clothing (jacket, long shirt, etc)
Knee pads (optional)
Folding chair
Snacks & water provided but we reco you bring a lunch
Range-appropriate clothing (no sandals or flip flops)
Weather appropriate gear(We train rain, sleet or snow!) But prefer sunny!

You must have completed the NRA Basic Pistol, and Personal Protection Inside the Home classes before attending this course. There are waivers given for prior experience, but it is highly encouraged to have attended the prerequisite classes.

More Details:
This course is for adult individuals who are not disqualified from possessing a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law and are of good repute and possess defensive pistol skills presented in prior EDGE or UIA classes. Participants must also understand the basic legal concepts relating to the use of firearms in self-defense, and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules, but also those safety principles that are specific to defensive situations. Prospective participants can demonstrate that they have the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitudes by producing an NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home Course Certificate, or by passing the pre-course evaluation. Time and ammunition requirements are minimum, and may be exceeded. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and appropriate (level one/level two) course completion certificates(s)
