The primary focus of yoga and mindful practice class is to develop awareness and cultivate skills to care for the body, mind, and self. The Sanskrit word, yoga, means to join or to link, in this case referring to the unity of body and mind. We will utilize the tools of asana (postures) and mindful breathing to develop the body-mind connection further. The fundamentals of anatomy and alignment will be presented to enable students to work safely and intelligently. The basics of mindfulness will also be introduced to provide a pathway towards clear thinking and increased focus. Each student is encouraged to relate to their unique body types, frames of mind and life experiences. This class offers an opportunity to create balance, strength, flexibility, and relaxation. We will engage in discussions, small group projects, readings, art, and journaling to deepen our experience.
